In case you are wondering why I have a picture from a Mars rover, instead of a glorious green jungle, or waterfall, or forest, or beach? At the rate people are destroying the planet, visitors in the future will find the surface of Earth, resembling that of Mars today.
Bradburry does a nice peice the earthlings, who in the near future do make it to Mars, but find under the surface the remains of a once flourishing world. The humans first world, before they migrated to earth, ..that humans had indeed, been the ones to destroy Mars, as a habitble planet.
In the Planet of the Apes book, we find out that once agian it was the humans who ravaged the earth, and nearly wiping them selves out, and leaving it to the monkeys. You know, science fiction is not a made up story, but social criticism thinly veiled? Like politicians actually say what they mean?
